very informative and interesting, i will be taking my exam next week. I’m sure this is going to help

For question #4, the answer is d. You should not use an immobilization device to stabilize the head. The AHA ACLS Provider Manual pg. 49 under the Part 5 Respiratory Arrest: Subheading: Precautions for Trauma Patients: “In the trauma patient with suspected neck injury, use jaw thrust without head extension. Because maintaining a patent airway and providing ventilation are priorities, use a headtilt-chin lift maneuver if the jaw thrust is not effective….Use manual spinal motion restriction rather than immobilization devices. Manual spinal immobilization is safer.”

I have question, why oropharengeal airway is not included in airway ajuncts. Thanks if somebody can clear.

    • Jeff with admin. says

The question reads: “1. Examples of advanced airway adjuncts include all the following except:”

The oropharengeal airway is not an advanced airway. It is considered a “basic airway adjunct.” Pg. 42 AHA ACLS provider manual.

    HI Jeff,

Just wanted to thank you again for this website. I have told multiple colleagues about this site. I credit your website with my nearly perfect score on the ACLS written test . This site is so much easier than reading the book and it contains all of the necessary information. I seem to be able to concentrate better with interactive learning and having the references to the pages in the AHA book allowed me to go to the book to re-read entire passages. I will be back!

I have read the ACLS manual from start to finish and accidentally left it at work. Your site has enabled me to have enough information and knowledge checks to feel that I can take the ACLS exam confidently without the manual. thanks

    Jeff-

Can you please explain question #4 to me? Wouldn’t the head-tilt be out of the question for a cervical spine trauma? I may be reading this wrong! Thanks

    • Jeff with admin. says

AHA ACLS Provider Manual pg.

If it is a choice between maintaining c-spine and keeping an airway, you have to choose airway first. No airway no oxygen. No oxygen no life. This would be last resort of course.

hi jeff. on this quiz.. you asked about the final D in the ACLS survey. and on page 35 in the
acls book 2009-2010 ..which is what the hospital sent. the final D is defibrillation? is that
no longer correct. And…regarding ‘their’ dosing of adenosine..is first dose is 6mg then may be
repeated 12mg every 1-2 min as needed??? can yo help with these questions??

    • Jeff with admin. says

pg. 35 is a table showing the steps of the BLS Survey. The D for defibrillation is for the BLS Survey.
Pg. 36-37 shows the ACLS Survey.

AHA recommendation for Adenosine is 6mg rapid IV push. If this does not convert give 12mg rapid IV push. That’s it. No more repeating this medication.

I didn’t do so well with this round of quizzes. I ordered the book online, but I didn’t have the ISBN, so the bookstore I ordered through sent me the older version. I guess they figured as long as it was still in cellophane it was the new version. In class we covered the ACLS guidelines in one afternoon and moved on to 12 lead ECG interpretation. It looks like I’m gonna have a lot to study in the next two weeks.
