Step 7: ACLS Stroke Protocol
Once the inclusion and exclusion criteria have been reviewed and the patient remains a candidate for fibrinolytic therapy, the risks and benefits should be discussed with the patient and family. If the patient and/or family give their consent for the therapy, the stroke team should quickly continue with the fibrinolytic therapy protocol. Any hospital that administers rtPA will have a fibrinolytic therapy protocol in place.
All treatments up to this point should have taken place within the 60 minute window of time allowed before rtPA is started. The rtPA should be started within 60 minutes of arrival at the treatment facility.
