Used your site to prepare for my ACLS course last month and have no regrets. Honestly the best way to cover the material by far. I actually enjoyed learning and studying and found myself overly prepared to take the course. Thank you for the effort and preparation that you put into this.

    Hi Jeff,
Your course is amazing! I have really learned quite a bit. I do have a question. I was taking the final 30 question quiz and question 13 asks about which scenario would require immediate CPR.

According to the PAL’s manual, in order for CPR to be initiated, the patient must be a) unresponsive, b) no breathing or only gasping(agonal) or c) no pulse or pulse < 60.

Answer 1 – the patient is not responsive.
Answers 2 and 4 meet all criteria.
Answer 3 – the patient IS responsive noted by open eyes and lethargy. The child in answer 3 is still breathing rapidly but has a severely decreased heart rate of 55 – which meets the criteria.

Question – why wouldn't answer 1 also receive CPR? A Toddler's heart rate is between 98-140. Granted, the listed HR not less than 60 in this scenario, but at 70, it's bradying down, and the child is not responsive (which meets the criteria). Can you please explain this further so I may better grasp concepts? Many thanks!

This question was designed to assess the providers recognition of the basic criteria for beginning cpr.

That being said, in a real setting, the provider would need to use their clinical judgement and discretion which may direct a provider to tailor interventions to best treat the scenario that is present before them.

      Kind regards,
      Jeff

Are there PALS Video Review Tutorials like the ACLS ones? I can’t seem to find them on your site!

    Thanks,

At this time, there are not any PALS video review tutorials. I do intend on developing video content in the PALS area but this is under development.

      Kind regards,
      Jeff
